Sarcastic tone
This study examined the sarcastic tone Amazon reviews gave to determine which products receive positive or negative reviews. We analysed 5000 reviews and classified them as "Sarcastic" (or "Nonsarcastic") Then, we divided those reviews according to their sarcastic tone into five categories. Results show that products with a sarcastic tone have a lower likelihood of being reviewed positively than those with neutral tones.
Two-star ratings are what show the classifier's performance best. The highest recall and precision was achieved by using reviews with a 2-star rating. To identify sarcastic tones, we used the exact same dataset, but also considered reviews that were less than favorable. We found that 2-star reviews have a more sarcastic tone to them than other reviews.
