Metawe was founded in 1999 as a consulting firm for Indigenous youth. It focuses on giving them the support and tools they need to become successful adults. The emphasis is on healthy relationships and life skills. The shop also promotes games like Photosynthesis, which are sustainable. It also actively supports designers through retail purchases and Kickstarter campaigns. The shop received mixed reactions in its first month.
